All you need to know about new Rs.500/- note

In the rise of demonetization of old Rs.500/- and Rs.1000/- notes, it is very important for you to understand the security features of new currency notes of Rs.500/- and Rs.2000/-. It will take some time for the FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) to surface again in the new design. If we believe the government, the new notes have added security features and state-of-the-art design which are not easy to replicate. Still, it is better to remain on the safer side and know everything about new notes. In this article, we will discuss the features of new Rs.500/- note.

Size, design, and color

First of all, let’s talk about the size. The dimensions of the new note are 66mm x 150mm. The notes come in stone gray color and have a very dominating image of Red Fort on the back side. The new Rs.500/- notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series are completely different from old notes and are very easy to differentiate from old notes.

Features of Rs.500/- note

Obverse

1. On the left bottom side of the note, which is denoted as “1” in the image, there is a see-through register in the denominational number.
2. Just below “1”, there is a small dark gray box which is labeled as “2” in the image has the Latent Image of the denominational numeral.
3. The RBI has also added the denominational number in Devnagri font for those who are not well versed in English Numbers. The Devnagri font is very dominatingly standing on the left side of Mahatma Gandhi image. This feature is labeled as “3” in the image.
4. In the new currency note, you will notice that the orientation and relative position of the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi have been changed. The portrait has the label “4” in the image.
5. Coming to the “5” feature, it is a windowed security thread that changes color from green to blue when you tilt the note.
6. The “6” feature has the Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with the Promise Clause and RBI emblem that has been shifted to the right side.
7. In the “7” feature, you will notice the Portrait and Electrotype watermark which is visible when the note it put against the light.
8. The “8” feature in the image shows that the new numeric system is different from the previous notes. You will find the numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.
9. The feature that is labeled “9” in the image has numerals with Rupee symbol. It changes color when you tilt or put it under UV light. It is situated on the bottom right.
10. The “10” is a very prominent feature of the front side of the Rs.500 note. It is the Ashoka Emblem which is located on the right side of the note.
11. The “11” and “12” features are for the visually impaired individuals. The “11” has the circle with Rs.500 in raised print on the right side of the note and “12” points out the 5 bleed lines that are on the both sides of the note.

Reverse

1. There are 5 distinct features of the back side of the Rs.500 note. The following will provide the list of those 5 features
2. On the back left side, the Year of Printing can be seen that has been labeled as “13”
3. The government has added a Swachh Bharat logo as well on the note with the slogan and it is labeled as “14” in the image.
4. The language panel has the denomination of the note written in different languages. It is labeled as “15” in the image.
5. “16” is the most dominating feature of the back panel that is the red fort image.
6. Lastly, “17” points out the Denominational numeral in Devnagri on the right side of the back side of Rs.500/- note.
